The massive neo-functionalist building of the Prague Congress Centre (KCP), formerly the Palace of Culture, was inaugurated on 2 April 1981. The light and transparent aluminium and glass façade hides an interior with generous spaces dominated by precious materials such as marble, granite and anodised aluminium columns. The KCP offers seventy different sized halls and lounges with a capacity of up to ten thousand people. The largest Congress Hall can accommodate up to 2,764 visitors. In 1998, the building underwent its first major reconstruction, a new building with extensive office facilities was completed, the Business Centre Vyšehrad and the Holiday Inn Prague hotel.
