The open-air exhibition project Sculpture Line is a unique opportunity to present sculptures
and art objects to both citizens and visitors of the Czech capital in an attractive setting.
Prague itself provides the best exhibition place, be it frequented areas or less-expected locations,
both in the centre and outskirts of the metropolis. Works of art by leading local & international
artists interact directly with the city and invite you for a walk of discovery. The aim of the festival
is to enrich the public space, offer a new view of the architectural context and, hopefully, become
a new tradition. We invite you to take to the streets where art awaits you. Join the Line, enjoy the Line!

The main aim of the Sculpture Line festival is to enrich the public space and come up with a new tradition, reminiscent of similar events in many capitals of the world. We feel that Prague lacked such an event and I hope both citizens and visitors of the city will enjoy the festival as much as we do. I am glad we summoned a great team of contributors and colleagues, and my big thanks belong to all the authors as well as partners, without whom this festival would not be possible. Join the Line and enjoy the Line. See you in the streets.
I have chosen the sculptures for Sculpture Line 2016 from already existing artefacts. There is no site-specific object or work created especially for this event. The aim was to find already existing works of art made by contemporary artists and explore the interaction stemming from placing the objects in particular public spaces. The space is the key factor for the right impression of any artwork. And the wide range of attractive Prague settings provided attractive sceneries for each of the participating artists. I am glad that we agreed on the names of this year's sculptors with the rest of the team rather easily. The only thing which I regret deeply is that Aleš Veselý is missing from the list, as he passed away in December 2015. I was counting on one of his objects to be featured, unfortunately we did not get to meet and discuss the plan before it was too late.
Prague is a city of picturesque corners with a patina of old times. It makes the impression of a spontaneous meeting of all centuries and artistic styles for a friendly chat over coffee. The Sculpture Line festival brings the voice of the twenty-first century. But we do not want to attract attention at any cost. We want to enter the urban landscape carefully and wisely, even if the works are only temporary guests in the capital. I believe that we will be pleased even with a fleeting glance from the tram, we might rest by a new sculpture in the city park. The festival represents a meeting with the contemporary art even for those who do not visit galleries. Sculpture Line is with you in the morning on your way to work, it appeals to you during the evening walk with your dog. Enjoy it.
