SCULPTURE LINE 2017: 1. 6. - 30. 9. 2017

The open-air exhibition project Sculpture Line is a unique opportunity to present sculptures
and art objects to both citizens and visitors of the Czech capital in an attractive setting.
Prague itself provides the best exhibition place, be it frequented areas or less-expected locations,
both in the centre and outskirts of the metropolis. Works of art by leading local & international
artists interact directly with the city and invite you for a walk of discovery. The aim of the festival
is to enrich the public space, offer a new view of the architectural context and, hopefully, become
a new tradition. We invite you to take to the streets where art awaits you. Join the Line, enjoy the Line!

Psotková Veronika *1981 woven wire mesh

Veronika Psotková is a graduate from the Studio of Sculpture of Michal Gabriel (MgA., 2009) at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno. Her work is based on the principles of realistic figural sculpture. Statues created by Veronika Psotková refer to classic as well as contemporary figural creation with a strong influence of pop culture. She is interested in the aesthetics and autocorrection of the human body, the transformation of context and the mutual communication of statues in a spatial installation. Working with stylized wire figurines forms a parallel line to her realistic sculpture creation.

Moser Marc *1968 bronze

Marc Moser was born in 1968 in Arbon, a swiss industrial town at the lake of constance. In his youth, he crafted first sculptures, made out of different materials. Influenced by the environment and the profession of his father, an ironmonger, he has developed an affinity for metals. 1986, after completing intermediate school, Marc Moser decided against an academic career, but for an apprenticeship as blacksmith. This decision revealed him the possibilities of steel. 1989, years of practical work followed, so with swiss steel sculptor Etienne Krähenbühl. Since 1993 Moser creates artworks in his atelier in Arbon. Many of his artworks have received international attention, including the object Sea Pink at the international exhibition Sculpture by the Sea in Aarhus, Denmark, and the object bluetoo_ at OpenArt, Örebro Sweden, the largest Art Biennale of Scandinavia.
The origin of the artwork of Marc Moser is his intuition. The sculptures reveal the polarities, which are caused by human activity and aspiration. They illustrate the dilemma and the balancing act of conscious existence.

Dostál Jan *1992 steel

Jan Dostál’s “handwriting“ has been formed from the beginning of his work through various materials he works with (clay, wood, glass and resin) until the first time he came across steel in which he definitely found himself as an author. This material allows him to work from a small scale up to monumental dimensions. Dostál’s works are made up of small geometric elements (variables) from which he gradually puts together and creates his sculptures. Gradual putting together leads to creation of multi-element structures creating either sculptures that are thematically based on the animal sphere, where the author gradually reduces reality to geometric shapes, or the second path where the sculptor moves at a purely abstract level. In recent years, Dostál examines and develops the possibilities of the circle, creating an abstract body formed by only one circle with exactly given diameter. The resulting works are not closed on the surface, complete in the same way as classic sculptures, but the author leaves them deliberately open in order to perceive also the space inside. The openness of the statues offers the viewer to see the interior of the statues.

Her artistic concept is typical of expressive range of colours, simple adn rounded morphology and an abiding sense of playful elements.

Fiala Václav *1955 iron

Václav Fiala completed his studies at the Secondary School of Applied Art in Prague. There followed a number of author’s exhibitions (the Prague Castle, the Moravian Gallery in Brno, Gallery in Klatovy/Klenová, Museum Moderner Kunst in Passau, Mánes Gallery, Maerz Gallery in Linz, Cordonhaus Gallery in Cham, Art Gallery in Karlovy Vary, Galerie Caesar in Olomouc, St. Anne’s Church in Passau, Granitzentrum in Hauzenberg, etc.), he also participated in many collective expositions (the Netherlands, Austria, Germany, Spain, France, the U.S.). In 1997, he presented his works at the exhibition in the Old Royal Palace at Prague Castle. In the same year, he obtained a grant from the American Pollock-Krasner Foundation and exhibited in Socrates Sculpture Park in New York. Participation in more than sixty sculpture symposia allowed him to make large format works using stone, wood and iron. In 2004 and 2005, he exhibited within the framework of Sculpture by the Sea in Sydney, where he won the main Sydney Sculpture Prize twice. Fiala’s sculptural approach is based on minimization of shapes and is often inspired by architecture. One of the most important features of Fiala’s creation is the feeling for incorporating the statue into space. In addition to sculptural work, Fiala organizes exhibitions and carries out publishing activities. He also gives lectures on his main subject – work of art in public space.
