Nám. Republiky

Right in the center of the city‘s historical preserve is the large Republic Square, once one of the largest in Europe (139 x 193 m). Its space is completely controlled by the massive construction of the Cathedral of St. Bartholomew with a tower which is the highest church tower in the Czech Republic. Between the richly decorated town houses on the square stands a Renaissance town hall with sgraffito decoration. The nearby Marian pillar is complemented by three modern fountains in the other corners of the square, depicting the heraldic motifs of the urban emblem. There are several museums, galleries and other valuable historical sites worth visiting. There are not only regular craft and farm markets, but also numerous cultural events. The pleasant atmosphere of the Pilsen Square is best enjoyed by sitting in one of the many pre-gardens.
