náměstí Dr. E. Beneše
The Liberec Town Hall in Dr. E. Beneš Square is one of the most valuable monuments in the city. The Neo-Renaissance building was built in 1893 according to a project by the Viennese architect F. Neumann. The main façade faces the square, and three towers rise above it, the highest of which rises 65 meters high and is topped with a sculpture of a knight. A stylized bronze tank caterpillar track is mounted under the windows at the entrance, reminiscent of the invasion of the Warsaw Pact troops in 1968. The building is also decorated with reliefs symbolizing the holdings of the burghers in Liberec, Liberec's trade relations with the world and its textile production, as the city was regarded as a centre of the textile industry for centuries.
